I get asked alot which is the best foundation to use. This is almost an impossible question to answer especially when it is asked via Snapchat or email because it is all dependent on your skin type and whether it’s primarily for day or night time, whether you are looking for full, medium or light coverage, whether you have any particular skin problems etc. There are so many questions! So this post is dedicated to what I would wear Daytime only – I rarely wear these at night if I’m heading anywhere, that’s a whole other post!
What I personally look for in a Daytime foundation:
- Medium – Full coverage, mostly full!
- Light in color to look ‘natural’ and match my skin tone
- Not too thick in consistency
- I have Combination skin, some dry patches and the odd spot prone areas
- SPF – but if not in the foundation I ensure I have this is my primer or skin prep products
- Inexpensive as it is used literally every day and in an office
I don’t ask for much do I? Well, here’s the foundations that work well for me and tick all or at least most of these boxes!
IsaDora Nude Sensation Fluid Foundation
I mentioned this recently in my What’s in my Makeup Bag post because it’s what I currently wear daily. This foundation launched the beginning of this year, I talked about the launch I attended here, and I’m still using the same bottle! It has lasted me ages – I’m nearing the end now though but for what seems like a pricey drug store product it has well and truly proven it’s value. It’s lightweight on the skin and is a medium coverage but build-able to full! Doesn’t come in the biggest range of colours but you can mix them to try and find your shade if you find this to be an issue
Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation
This featured in my Favourite Products of 2014 post and it really saw me through my ski holiday in Winter. It has SPF20 which is why I originally picked it up as I knew being high on the mountain would require lots of protection! I wore this from stupid o clock in the morning for when I had to get up for the airport, all through my transportation and flights, and even up the mountains when I landed to get my ski gear and I still looked human! Same with every other day when I had hats and helmets on and off, I was not expecting it to last through all that wear but it did! It is a little thick in consistency so if that’s not an issue then go for it! It’s a full coverage but they also have a light coverage version (with the white lid) I’ve not tried that one though so can’t confirm if it’s as good!
L’Oreal True Match Foundation
If you could see the amount of bottles I have went through of this over the years! I actually have all the empty bottles in a large basket but I’m too scared to add up the value. It is a medium to full coverage foundation and it’s build-able, It’s not too heavy in consistency and comes in like a million shades. Maybe not a million but almost. It doesn’t cake and it’s one I always go back to and ensure to have stocked in my drawer!
Maybelline Fit Me Foundation
This is one from the lot that I sometimes wear in the evening too (in a much darker shade to match my tan) it’s medium to full coverage and even has SPF – but just watch this for evening wear as it causes bounce back if you’re taking flash photos! It’s not too heavy in consistency but does give a flawless finish! There’s a good range of colours so you’re bound to find one you like!
L’Oreal Lumi Magique Foundation
This is not far off True Match but does come in alot less colours. It gives the skin a nice healthy glow and again it’s a medium to full coverage! It’s not too heavy on the skin but it’s great for winter to make your skin look much more human against the crappy Irish weather! Especially if you’re not bothered applying any illuminating primers or anything like that.
There are lots of others I have in my drawer and currently in testing which I’ll report back – as I said I don’t really use high end during the day for everyday office wear, but I’ll cover them in another post soon!
Any recommendations for me to try out?
